The sands of time are running out

Years ravage the fragile physical material and it’s crucial to preserve the cultural heritage in order for the film stock not to be lost forever. There is still tons of historical material to restore in the near future, before the reels crumble up and the picture loses color irreversibly, however no one has really counted them all. This is because of the complexity of this process, requiring years of research and sourcing the best copies among the world’s archives and even private collections.

The continuous efforts of Locomotive is recognized and financially supported by many state institutions such as the State Culture Capital Foundation and National Film Center, which has included the restored films in the portal Filmas.lv, therefore making the material publicly available for schools and libraries. To make any restoration of a historical material, we have to work in close collaboration with the National Library and The National Archives of Latvia daily and private film enthusiasts and collectors.
